These are some of the costume exploration I did for the main character from Oniko (2026).
We did many rounds of different colour schemes and pattern options to discover which would best represent the character. As the film is set in Japan, but is primarily going to be watched by a Western audience, we had to find a design in which the symbolism could be easily read by both cultures.
We also had to take into consideration the lighting of the film (which is entirely set at night) when deciding on colour, so I translated the top designs into some of the colour keys to see which colour palette read the best on-screen.
